Midwest Homeschool Expo FAQs

  • Our Mission:

    • The Midwest Homeschool Expo is a purposeful, inclusive gathering of families, vendors and service providers that welcomes diversity, is not aligned with any one particular learning method and recognizes that each child and family has unique needs.

    • It is a resource centered, annual event that matches current and prospective homeschool parents with subject matter experts to learn and be inspired, as well as have access to a comprehensive group of home education specific vendors and community connections.

    • Family events remove unnecessary barriers to finding relationships and encourage friendship growth in safe and fun environments.

    • To ensure all families feel welcome, the participating vendors, service providers, curriculum and speakers are all neutral and non-religious in their offerings at the event.

  • What do you mean by "inclusive"?

We recognize that there are now many different types and methods of home education beyond what has been traditional in the homeschooling community. Some families partner with a charter school, receiving funding that makes education at home possible for them. Other families choose to have their child attend a virtual public school, hybrid school, micro-school or co-op with a student working at home a couple of days a week, and then in a classroom setting the other weekdays. All of the families in these situations are doing some or all of their primary education in a home environment and will benefit from what the Midwest Homeschool Expo offers: excellent educational resources, social connections, and family fun. At the Midwest Homeschool Expo, we take an expansive view of the word "homeschool," all families, students and learning methods are welcome! In addition to being inclusive of all styles of home education, the Midwest Homeschool Expo feels passionate about hosting a neutral, safe and affirming place for all students. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, or other characteristics and we require all of our Vendors, Speakers, Workshop Providers, and attendees to do the same.

  • What do you mean when you say that Midwest Homeschool Expo is "non-religious" or "secular"?

The Midwest Homeschool Expo selects vendors, service providers, curriculum and speakers that provide educational materials and experiences which are not aligned with a particular faith system to ensure all participants feel welcome. Speakers and workshop leaders are asked to refrain from sharing personal religious beliefs during presentations at the event. There may be an exception to this policy where no other resources exists, however we do our best to maintain a neutral environment where everyone feels welcome to participate.

  • Can I bring my kids & teens with me?

Yes, the Midwest Homeschool Expo was created for families! School-aged children (6+) and teens are welcome to attend and register for kid’s workshops. Childcare for children aged 6 and below is not provided, but parents with small children can attend and enjoy the event.
